Description
The Port-Royal Habitation is a reconstruction of a small French compound began in 1605 by Sieur de Mons. It was home to one of the earliest European settlements on this continent. Mi'kmaq people lived along these shores for centuries and it was here that the French and the Mi'kmaq formed an enduring friendship and alliance. The Habitation survived until 1613 when it was destroyed in an attack by Captain Samuel Agrall of Virginia.M
Reconstructed in 1939, the Habitation is itself a landmark in Canada's historic preservation movement. Costumed guides will help you get a feel for early 17th-century life in Acadie.
