Description

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this National Historic Site commemorates Guglielmo Marconi who initiated the age of telecommunication. Exhibits reflect developments in wireless communication from 1902 to 1905.

It was here, on December 15, 1902, that Marconi transmitted the world's first official wireless message to a sister station near Poldhu on the southwest coast of England. The Site is the location of the original Table Head station. A short interpretive trail leads to the remains of concrete foundations where the station's four 64-metre aerial towers and transmitter buildings stood.

At various times of day an amateur radio station, operated by members of the Sydney Amateur Radio Club, sends and receives messages using Marconi's original code letters, 'VAS'.
