Description
In the 1600s and 1700s, this tranquil site was the thriving center of early European colonization and settlement, called Acadie by the French, Nova Scotia by the British. Fort Anne was one of the most highly contested territories in North America during the 17th and early 18th centuries as it endured alternate sieges and attacks from the French and the British seeking control of the continent. In fact, the Mi'kmaq used this site as a stopping place in their voyages over 3,000 years ago.
Explore the Officers' Quarters which features extensive exhibits, view the Fort Anne Heritage Tapestry where vibrant colours and lively vignettes illustrate four centuries of history in Annapolis Royal. An informative video on fortifications from medievel castles to 18th century forts is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
